New mediation service

Arch mediation serviceIARCH is now an independent charity and provides services throughout Harrogate District and neighbouring areas of Yorkshire.

ARCH continues to provide neighbour mediation at no cost to all residents of the Harrogate District and now also provides mediation for young people and families (intra-family) and the various forms of commercial mediation – including family, employment & workplace, property, education, financial services and professional negligence.

Good Neighbours 2Good Neighbours’ schemes are being rolled out across North Yorkshire to offer practical support to people living in rural areas.

Good Neighbours schemes are so-called because they offer low-level help to older and vulnerable people within a community, are volunteer-led by local residents (i.e. neighbours), and contribute towards a greater quality of life for all in rural areas.

‘A guide to exploring the internet safely’

This was a really interesting presentation about the internet. Peter Morris from the University of Oxford started with a brief overview of how he became involved with computers and then went on to demonstrate how the internet enhanced his daily life. Following this, Jordan Booth from Barclays Digital Eagles described their work in helping people to access the internet, together with helpful tips for staying safe on-line. Judging by the number of questions from the audience, this was a popular presentation.

Dying without dignity report

Health Ombudsman phso-logoEnd of life care could be improved for up to 355,000 people a year in England, according to a report published recently by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. The report highlights tragic cases where people’s suffering could have been avoided or lessened with the right care and treatment, as they approached the end of their lives.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman makes final decisions on complaints about the NHS in England, including where there is a dispute about what happened. The Ombudsman service identified a range of issues with end of life care from its casework.    Continue reading

The NHS Complaints Advocacy Service in North Yorkshire is provided by Cloverleaf Advocacy. The service is available to anyone who is a resident of North Yorkshire. The NHS Complaints Advocacy Service is for those who wish to have support to make a Complaint about a service they have received from the NHS.  The service is free, confidential and independent.
