New Guide to Healthy Ageing

‘A Practical Guide to Healthy Ageing’ (online pdf)  produced in conjunction with Age UK,  is intended to help people to stay physically and mentally well by providing “hints and tips” on how to keep fit and independent. While it is aimed at people of any age, it is particularly relevant for people aged around 70 years or older who are beginning to find that everyday tasks now take them longer to do and may be suffering from mild frailty.

Following our AGM, there will be a presentation entitled ‘Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow’ – The story of the National Trust from its inception in 1895 to the present day. Glenda Hunter will tell us how the NT has grown to become a leading conservation organisation.

NHS England is keen to raise public awareness about the Friends and Family Test. The FFT is a quick and anonymous questionnaire designed to give NHS patients the opportunity to give feedback each time they receive care and/or treatment. Between March 14th – 18th NHS England will launch its awareness campaign, which will feature events, news items and local promotions through advertising, posters and leaflets.

Queen Elizabeth 2 bTo celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday the Lord Lieutenant is organising a celebration on Sunday 12 June in Ripon Cathedral. The  Lieutenancy is hoping to invite some very special people who reside within the Lieutenancy area which includes North Yorkshire (A map of the area can be found at: www.nyll.org.uk/about/county-facts )

If your date of birth is either 21 April 1926 or 12 June 1926 (the dates of Her Majesty’s actual & official birthdays), you may apply for a free ticket for yourself and for someone to accompany you.  Anyone with birthdays on these dates will be guaranteed an invitation.    Continue reading

‘Clean for the Queen’ runs from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 March 2016 and aims to give the country a tidy-up ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in April. Local residents, schools and community groups who want to organise a clean-up are being encouraged to sign up to the national campaign.
