December 8th   Christmas Lunch at Ascot House Hotel

By popular request, we met for our Christmas Lunch at the Ascot House Hotel, King’s Road. The three course meal was delicious and enjoyed by all. As usual the hotel staff provided excellent attentive service. 

It was a really enjoyable occasion: great food and delightful company.

 

 

December 3rd    Christmas Visit to Chatsworth House
Chatsworth HouseThe Christmas visit will be to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. The theme for their decorations this year is “The Wind in the Willows”.
Our tour of the house has been booked for 12.30. There are restaurants and cafes for drinks and food. Pick up times: Knaresborough Coach Park, York Road at 8.45am and Harrogate Library, Victoria Avenue at 9.00am. We aim to be back about 5.30pm. Friends are welcome as well as members. The cost is £27. Please reserve your place by using the booking form on the back page of ‘The Voice’ October 2015 on the ‘Publications’ page of the Information Hub.

NHS servicesThere will be a presentation about current changes in the way that NHS services are funded and managed, followed by a discussion about current issues affecting older people.

Crimple HallCrimple Hall consists of a large garden centre, antique centre, gift shop, art gallery and a delicatessen. There are Christmas displays.

October 14th    Skipton Canal trip and lunch

By popular request, we took a trip to Skipton for a ride on a canal barge, including lunch. This proved to be very popular last year with our members, who enjoyed this slow and peaceful trip and it was just as popular this year.

We met for lunch in the fabulous Grove House. It was a lovely venue and the menu was very varied and suited all tastes.

Older Peoples Day

To celebrate International Older People’s Day this year, we are held an afternoon Tea Party with entertainment at St Paul’s church hall, on Wednesday, 30 September at 2.30pm.  It started with a light hearted look at the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s in the form of a slide show ( to see what we remembered).  The speaker had been recommended by members of the Forum and was very entertaining. Following the entertainment, we had an afternoon cream tea party and a raffle.

DementiaWe can all do something to help people living with dementia – to help them hold on to their lives and the people and things they love, to take up new interests and gain new experiences. Come along to this forum meeting and hear from Dementia Forward and the Alzheimer’s Society about the work they are doing, the people they help  and how you might be able to help.

August 8th                  Day Trip to Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens

We visited Burton Agnes in February to see the snowdrops and the trip was a great success. So, at the request of our members, we are returning to Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens to see the summer garden display. There is a cafe in the garden and also a woodland walk.

‘A guide to exploring the internet safely’

This presentation will show you how to explore the internet and hopefully allay fears about security and privacy while accessing it. Even if you do not currently access the internet (and have no plans to do so in the future), come along to the meeting and find out what everyone is talking about. After all, ‘knowledge is power’.

July 9th                                Day trip to Whitby via the North Yorkshire Railway

Join us on a day out to Whitby. Leaving via coach to Pickering, where we will board the train to travel to Whitby. Enjoy doing whatever takes your fancy, before returning to the coach for the journey home.
