CQC starts inspections in Yorkshire hospitals

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) will start its inspections of hospitals in Yorkshire and London this week. The CQC aims to review 18 NHS trusts by the end of 2013 as part of its new programme and hopes to have completed the inspection of all acute hospitals by the end of 2015. The inspections are designed to expose poor care and highlight excellent care. However, despite recommendations following Sir Bruce Keogh’s review, which identified a link between high mortality rates and the numbers of nurses on the wards, staffing levels will not be monitored.

The new Commissioning Group for healthcare

The Harrogate and Rural District Clinical Commissioning Group known as HaRD CCG was created in 2012 and one of its first public consultations was in relation to Mental Health Care for vulnerable adults. This afternoon’s presentation highlighted the work of the group to date and emphasised the need for people to get involved with shaping future healthcare provision.

New changes to health services in the district

Changes to the health service provision and monitoring were the theme for this afternoon’s meeting. Health Watch is a new consumer champion for the public, patients, health and social care users, carers and their families. It will be monitoring service provision and giving feedback to commissioners and service providers on our behalf.  There will be ‘drop-in’ sessions in local libraries for people who wish to give feedback about their experiences of healthcare provision.

Please help spread the word to older people in the Harrogate district. Anyone over 50 is welcome.

Staying warm and healthy

‘Hotspots’ ….. an apt title for the presentation by Denise Hall, on this cold wintry day. We’re obviously a hardy bunch, because we still turned up – obviously intrigued by the title! To find out more about ‘Hotspots’ you can read the Minutes of this meeting. Alex Bird from Age UK highlighted the assistance that Age UK can provide about staying warm and healthy in winter. Lots of information to digest and leaflets such as ‘Winter Wrapped Up’. Hosts of organisations are involved in helping to keep people warm in winter – not to mention the Government’s ‘Green Deal’.
