Tuesday December 10th Forum Christmas Lunch
Thursday November 25th 2 – 4pm ‘Making the most of life’
Thursday 21st October 2021 Day trip Markenfield Hall (Nr Ripon) Cost £28 per person
We will leave Knaresborough, York Place at 1.15pm, Harrogate Library 1.30pm. Arriving back about 5 pm. The price includes the coach, the tour, tea and cake.
We have been to Markenfield Hall before, about four years ago, and have been asked to do another trip there for people who enjoyed it. This is slightly different as we are also having a talk about Caroline Norton (a relation to the Grantley family who own Markenfield Hall) whom Antonia Fraser has written about in her latest book entitled ‘The Case of the Married Woman’. Markenfield is a medieval moated Manor House and remains largely untouched. During the Reformation, this great house acted as one of the most important centres of ‘The rising of the North in 1569′ which was to be its tragic downfall. It was then purchased in 1761 by Sir Fletcher Norton who became Lord Grantley, who remains the owner today.
Markenfield Hall will be keeping mask wearing and social distancing, regardless of what the Government will be announcing on easing restrictions.

Please note: Our June meeting will take place at Cedar Court Hotel in the Rowan Suite.
Stonefall war gravesOur AGM will take place on June 24th, following a presentation by Elizabeth Smith from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). Elizabeth travels around the country talking about the work of the CWGC which maintains all the headstones and memorials to the fallen of WW1 and WW2 throughout the world. As well as talking to groups and school children, she recently conducted two fully-booked Heritage Day visits to Stonefall Cemetery in Harrogate, which included the histories of some of the nearly 1000 air crew members who are buried there.
The change of venue will hopefully allow us to comply with any Covid-19 restrictions which might be in place at the time.
