We hope you will join us in the newly refurbished restaurant at CEDAR COURT HOTEL,  Park Parade, Harrogate for a 3 course lunch with tea or coffee and mini mince pie. The hotel has ample car parking and there is a bus stop nearby on North Park Road.

The cost of the lunch is £21.00 per person (to include gratuity).  Please see the attached menu and booking form which can be brought to the next meeting or posted to Tania, to arrive by 24th November 2016.

AlertHow can we stay safe both at home and when we are out and about? How can we avoid being victims of a ‘scam’? At this meeting, we will consider the different types of ‘scams'; how to avoid them and how to report them in order to safeguard others and catch the scammers.  Ways in which we can enhance personal security and self-confidence will be identified. (Admission £2 which includes refreshments and raffle ticket). This is an important subject which affects everyone, not just those accessing the internet.

October 6th      12md       Older people’s Day Event

People eatingThis year we are joining Supporting Older People in their celebration at the Wesleyan Centre in Oxford Street, Harrogate. The day starts with a Service of Celebration (optional) in Wesley Chapel at 11.0am, followed at about 12md by a 3 course lunch (cost £3.50). In the afternoon, from about 1.30pm there will be entertainment in Wesley Chapel with music and verse. The afternoon will conclude with tea and biscuits at about 3.00pm. Everyone is welcome; just turn up on the day.

Great to see so many people at our lunch group. What a gorgeous day for strolling around the grounds of Ripley Castle in the sunshine.

 

 

August 25th           Day Trip to Markenfield Hall

This will be an afternoon visit to Markenfield Hall, Nr Ripon. “One of the most astonishing and romantic of Yorkshire’s medieval houses. Built defensively in 1310 by Edward 2’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, John de Markenfield, it is still completely moated.” (Historic Houses Association). An intriguing house and garden – and not very far away. To book a place on this visit contact Ann Hill  01423 861795There will be a conducted tour around the Hall followed by afternoon tea and cake. Cost £21 (non-refundable). Pick-up 1.30pm at Knaresborough Coach Park and 1.45pm from Harrogate Library.

Best foot forward 1As people get older, they are arguably more prone to accidents. Slips, trips and falls are the commonest types and are often preventable. Contributing factors include poor mobility and loss of balance. Facilitated by Gail McCracken, NYCC Falls Co-ordinator, this presentation will heighten your awareness of the risks of falls and highlight ways in which you can improve your safety.

July 7th         Annual Tea Party

 

Tea Party flyerThis year we had a tea party at St John’s Hub, St John’s Church, Knaresborough. It was a lovely day and the views from the terrace were marvellous. Great food and great company enjoyed by all.

June 8th                  Day Trip to Brodsworth Hall (Nr Doncaster)

 

We are taking a trip to Brodsworth Hall, which will take about an hour. Arriving at about 11am in time for coffee in the cafe, we will then have a private tour of the house at 11.30am. If you would prefer to visit the gardens first, you could join one of the free flow tours after 1.00pm. Cost £25 (non-refundable). Pick-up 9.30 from Harrogate Library and 9.45am from Knaresborough Coach station.

Food glorious foodEveryone is interested in Food for all sorts of reasons. As we grow older, the quality, the quantity and the variety of our food becomes ever more important. Vanessa Quarmby is an experienced professional dietician living and working in Yorkshire as both a private consultant and with companies such as Boots. Vanessa will be talking about all sorts of matters relating to our food, with particular attention to the concerns of older people. She will be available for questions after her talk.
In the second part of the meeting, John Fraser from Wiltshire Farm Foods will discuss the meals his company prepares and delivers and there will be samples for members to taste. We look forward to seeing you on 19th May at this fascinating and very relevant meeting. Admission: £2 which includes refreshments and a raffle ticket.
