As we get older it may feel like we are slowing down, it is important to listen to our bodies but it’s also good to keep ourselves mobile and active, socially and mentally. Why not try something new this year? Check out the Harrogate and Ripon Centre for Voluntary Services (HARCVS) ‘Where to Turn’ directory for ideas.

To help answer such questions, we have two speakers: representatives from Harrogate library and Harrogate and Ripon Centres for Voluntary Services (HARCVS). Julie Lonsdale who is the Outreach Librarian at Harrogate Library will outline all the resources that the Library now provides including support, training and information about digital communications, and book manuscript resources, local history and family tree interests, social and meeting opportunities including coffee mornings, a Reading Group, and a place simply to relax and browse.

Following this, Angela Jones from Harrogate and Ripon Centres for Voluntary Services will talk about the vast range of services and groups in the District which HARCVS regularly supports. Angela produces a monthly Bulletin which is a major source of information about everything to do with voluntary activities; this Forum’s meetings are regularly included. Angela will be able to tell the Forum about the range of services and information available from HARCVS.

Admission £2 including refreshments and raffle ticket.

Join us at our Forum meeting on July 27th to discuss transport issues in the Harrogate District. We have invited representatives from the local transport service providers to give an overview of their services and answer questions from members of the public.

Getting around and combatting loneliness and isolation …..

Join the Forum for their meeting on July 27th to find out how the over 50s are getting around. We have invited representatives from bus companies, a taxi company. North Yorkshire County Council, Happy Wanderers and more, to give an overview of the services they offer. We will then have a ‘Question Time’ style discussion about transport issues in the Harrogate District. For further details see our ‘Forum Events’ page.

Crisp sunny winter mornings can inspire us to think of something new to do. Perhaps you fancy joining a group of people to share an interest and/or find company. Social connections are as important as money and health, according to a major new study. So, how do you find out what is going on in the Harrogate district? Well, of course, you can explore this website! There are links to all sorts of groups, organisations and sources of information. Alternatively you could always visit your local library for ideas about recreational and educational events.
