Gameover Zeus is an extremely vicious type of software, which will search through your computer files looking for financial and personal information. It will then remove them to steal the data. The malware (malicious software) could be installed on your computer via ‘phishing’ e-mails, so be very vigilant when checking your e-mails.

Precautions to take, include:

• installing the latest updates for MS Windows and other software.
• ensuring you are using the latest version of your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome etc)
• ensuring that your firewall and anti-virus software are updated.
• not opening any links or attachments in suspicious e-mails, particularly if they appear to come from financial institutions etc.
• making sure you back up all your files to enable you access them on anther computer, if yours becomes affected.
• not storing any passwords on your computer.
• changing your passwords if you think they may have been compromised**.
