‘Who’s keeping us safe’?

OstrichAt our next Forum meeting on Thursday 26th July, Helen Richardson, Community Safety Officer for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, will be talking to us and giving advice about safety. She will be joined by Will Champion, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) from Harrogate Police. Together they will be able to answer questions you may have on ‘how to keep safe’. Terrorist attack 2The police are keen to encourage the public’s support in preventing terrorism and assisting in the investigation of terrorist attacks. Following the recent terrorist attack in Westminster, the police are trying to increase public awareness of how people can assist them. Police Commissioner appeals for volunteers

Police CommissionerJulia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire is appealing for volunteers to become Independent Custody Visitors. These visitors play a vital role in monitoring the welfare of those held in custody and ensuring an open and accountable police service. The role involves making unannounced visits to detainees in police stations, talking with them and checking on the conditions in which they are held and submitting a report of the findings.

Keeping safe!

Firstly, a presentation from North Yorkshire Police about managing ‘cold callers’, safeguarding one’s credit card and financial details, and avoiding scams. This was followed by a talk about the charity ‘Supporting Older People’, which highlighted their services which aim to reduce loneliness and isolation. Continue reading
